The biggest game of the year also happens to be one of the biggest days for food.

Traditional tailgate foods like chicken wings are a fan favorite but if you are looking to add a twist on the traditional fare, here are some fun ideas.

LOCAL FLAVOR

Take some culinary inspiration from the cities who have made it to the final game. Boston and Atlanta have a great food scene and have contributed some delicious dishes to all-american fare.

Boston

  • Fried Clams
  • Lobster Rolls
  • Boston Cream Pie

Atlanta

  • Fried Okra
  • Fried Chicken
  • Peach Cobbler

MAKE IT MINI

Finger foods are the king of tailgate parties! Chicken wings, pigs in a blanket, chips and dip, all foods that are easily eaten while hanging out around the TV.

You can easily shrink your menu into bite size portions and find unique ways to serve them. Turn tortilla scoop chips into mini taco salads by adding taco meat, cheese and lettuce. Broil mini hamburger patties and serve on bite size burger buns for a handy all-american treat.

Pro Tip: Most grocery stores sell bite-size disposable plates and bowls which really make your dish look like someone shrunk the dinner.

THE SECRET INGREDIENT

Hosting a potluck? Put a spin on the traditional food sharing party by announcing a secret ingredient! Send out invites with the secret ingredient and ask your guests to bring a dish that incorporates it.

The secret ingredient can be safe, like bacon, chicken or cheese or a little more adventurous like mango, or peaches. Let your guests have fun with it and maybe even give a little prize for the most unique or tasty dish.
